Eyewitnesses said the attackers vandalized property, destroying chairs and bottles, and allegedly carted away phones and other valuables. The incident created panic among attendees, though no injuries were immediately reported.

Despite the provocation, Hon. Chila was said to have restrained his supporters from retaliating, instead urging calm and adherence to the law. He emphasized the need to move away from violence and intimidation in local politics.

“We cannot allow Ukum to be dragged back into the old politics of violence and lawlessness. Our people deserve a peaceful and issue-based political environment where ideas prevail,” he stated.

Hon. Chila confirmed that he has formally lodged a complaint with the Divisional Police Officer in Ukum and expressed confidence that security agencies will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about political tensions in the area as activities begin to build ahead of the 2027 general elections. Local stakeholders have called for restraint and peaceful engagement among political actors.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the alleged attack.
